Old Mortar Found Under Watertown Porch
WATERTOWN (WBZ) ―
An old mortar shell was found under the porch of a home in Watertown.
The device was discovered at 16 Keith St. Thursday evening.
A resident of the home, Chris Pearson, said his girlfriend was cleaning under the porch when she found the mortar shell. "She said she found a bomb and I ran downstairs. Next thing I know, I see a really old rusty artillery shell
just an odd thing to find."
Pearson called police. Fire trucks, the bomb squad and several cruisers rushed to the scene. Officials evacuated several homes on the street and blocked off the neighborhood.
The device was x-rayed by the bomb squad and taken away for examination.
Pearson said he was not scared, but was unsettled to know a potentially deadly device was under his porch for so long without him knowing.
