Wednesday's Child: 14-Year-Old Dariana

(WBZ) Dariana, who likes being called Dari, describes herself as an artistic, creative and athletic teenager. Adults in her life say she is a sweet, caring, and happy young lady who lights up the room with her charisma and positive attitude.

Dariana is of Hispanic descent and speaks mostly English and some Spanish. Typical of teenagers her age, 14-year-old Dariana enjoys playing video games and listening to music on her MP3 player. She also enjoys singing, dancing, gymnastics, roller skating and ice skating. Dariana takes great pride in the fact that she has performed both solo and group dance routines at the Wang Center for the Performing Arts.

A hands-on learner, Dariana is working hard to overcome some academic challenges. She is currently in a small structured classroom where she receives both academic and behavioral supports. Dariana responds well to redirection and overall she has good conduct in school. Dariana generally enjoys being around her peers and likes to be given responsibilities within the classroom.

Dariana is doing well in her foster home and has connected nicely with both of her foster parents. Her social skills and her ability to express her feelings is impressive. Dariana's past and present caretakers have articulated that Dariana is a joy to have in their lives.

Legally free for adoption, Dariana would do well in a single female or two-parent home with older or no other children. An ideal family would be supportive of Dariana maintaining contact with her siblings. This engaging young lady is ready to become a part of a family who can provide her with the structure, consistency and nurturance that she needs to reach her full potential.

To learn more about Dariana, and about adoption from foster care, call the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) at 617-54-ADOPT (617-542-3678) or visit www.mareinc.org. The sooner you call, the sooner a waiting child will have "a permanent place to call HOME."
