Wednesday's Child: 10-Year-Old Alonzo

BOSTON (WBZ) ― Alonzo is an engaging, friendly 10-year-old African-American boy.

Although he is initially shy when first meeting people, Alonzo has good social skills and interacts well with his peers and adults. Alonzo's social worker is seeking a supportive adoptive family who can help Alonzo reach his full potential.

Alonzo has a variety of interests including swimming, basketball, chess, arts and crafts, and karate. His favorite programs on TV are Hannah Montana and anything on the Disney Channel. Alonzo also likes taking shopping trips and going out to eat. Alonzo has said he wants to be a chef when he grows up.

Alonzo is in the fourth grade and does well in school, earning A's and B's. Math is his favorite subject. Alonzo is bright and articulate, and he wins the monthly principal award for his academic achievements. When Alonzo put his mind to something, he's good at it.

Alonzo is generally well-behaved in school and in his foster home, but tends to be a follower. He currently attends weekly therapy, which has helped in addressing past trauma issues. Alonzo would benefit from a family who can help keep him on track with routines at home.

Legally free for adoption, Alonzo would thrive in a single or two-parent family with a positive male role model who can provide the nurturing, structure, guidance and support he needs to become a successful adult.
To learn more about Alonzo and about adoption from foster care, call the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) at 617-54-ADOPT (617-542-3678) or visit www.mareinc.org. The sooner you call, the sooner a waiting child will have "a permanent place to call HOME."
