A masked robber believed to have hit up banks in Wellesley and Needham may have robbed a bank in Newton Wednesday afternoon, Newton police say.
While police say it's early in the investigation, they are looking into whether Wednesday's robber is the same man who hit up two other banks.
The robber targeted the Village Bank on Wyman Street around 1:15 p.m. He showed a handgun to the bank teller and demanded cash.
Anyone with information about the robber's identity is asked to contact Newton police at 617-796-2104. Anonymous tips can be placed at 617-796-2121.
The FBI can be reached at 617-742-5533.
BACKGROUND
Last month, a
bank at 342 Washington St. in Wellesley was robbed by a man who
police say also robbed a Needham bank one week later. In both robberies, the armed robber left a suspicious device in an apparent attempt to distract police while he fled the scene.
Police are offering a
$32,500 reward for information leading to an arrest in those cases.
