Weymouth Police Chief Jim Thomas has been placed on paid administrative leave after he allegedly made inappropriate comments to a female employee and gave her sexually
explicit cakes on her birthday, sources tell WBZ.
Sources say some officers were celebrating a female employee's birthday when Chief Thomas announced the woman would be performing at Club Alex's, a strip club in Stoughton. Sources say Thomas also provided the woman with a sexually explicate cake.
"There is an investigation going on, and we're not really allowed to talk about it at this point," said Councilor-At-Large Michael Molisse.
Molisse said he has known Thomas for decades.
"He's a great guy. I've known the chief for most of my life," Molisse said. "I know his family and he's a well-respected guy in the town of Weymouth.
Weymouth Police Captain Timothy Carr said the town isn't commenting on the investigation.
Some residents told WBZ they feel they have been left in the dark, saying they want to know why their police chief has been placed on leave.
"It's tough for myself, and it's tough on the town of Weymouth and its residents," Molisse said. "Everybody is very concerned about this issue."
Thomas is a 34-year veteran of the Weymouth Police Department. The town has hired an outside agency to help with the investigation. The investigation is expected to be wrapped up next week.
