The bureau released this photo in September of an unknown couple that was taken in Taormina, Sicily in April 2007. It was believed to be Bulger and his longtime girlfriend, Catherine Greig.

It appears that an elderly couple caught on camera in Italy last year may not have been fugitive mobster James "Whitey" Bulger and his girlfriend.
FBI agents from Boston appeared on German TV's equivalent of "America's Most Wanted" Wednesday to ask for the public's help in catching Bulger.
They showed pictures and video of a couple resembling Bulger and his longtime girlfriend, Catherine Greig, that was videotaped in Sicily last April.
FBI spokeswoman Gail Marcinkiewicz told WBZ Friday that a couple came forward after the German broadcast to say the man and woman in the video was them.
The FBI is now working with German authorities to confirm this, using the couple's passports, hotel receipts and other evidence.
Since the tape was made public last September, Bulger has also been featured in TV broadcasts in Rome, London and Madrid.
Bulger, 78, the former leader of the Winter Hill Gang, has been on the run since January 1995, when he was tipped off by FBI agent John Connolly that he was about to be indicted on racketeering charges.
He is also wanted for 19 murders in and around Boston during the 1970s and 1980s.
There is a $1 million reward for information leading to his arrest.
The FBI says the last confirmed Bulger sighting was in London in September 2002.
