Brookline On Alert For Attacking Wild Turkeys
BROOKLINE (WBZ) ―
Have you ever had one of those nights when you can't sleep and you spend it flipping through channels watching whatever airs in the wee hours of the morning?
If so, then chances are you probably came across the old show "
When Animals Attack".
Well in Brookline they're living out that script right now.
According to the
Brookline Tab , the town's police department is dealing with an influx of calls regarding aggressive turkeys.
Apparently one of the reasons for this is that this time of year also happens to be
turkey mating season.
The newspaper reports that apparently even an animal control officer has become a victim of the amorous turkeys.
The officer was called to investigate a report of wild turkeys on Norfolk Road. He found two male turkeys and they attacked him, injuring his leg.
Later officials learned that a resident had been feeding the turkeys, something Brookline Police are warning against. Experts say if the turkeys have no food they will move on.
There have also been reports of attacks in lower Beacon Street area.
Residents have also been warned not to leave young children unattended near the wild turkeys.
The Brookline Police gave the newspaper the following tips:
1. Don't feed the turkeys.
2. Keep bird feeder areas clean.
3. Don't let the turkeys intimidate you.
4. Cover windows and other reflective objects.
5. Protect your garden or crops.
6. Educate your neighbors.
If you see a wild turkey police say you should avoid it and then call them if the birds appear to be a danger. You can reach the Brookline Police Department at 617-730-2222.
