Patriots Release Recently Arrested Willie Andrews
MANSFIELD (WBZ) ―
The New England Patriots have released defensive back Willie Andrews, only days after he was arrested for allegedly holding a gun to his girlfriend's head.
The team made the announcement Tuesday afternoon.
Mansfield police say they received a call around 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning from a woman who said her boyfriend, 24-year-old Willie Andrews, had pointed a gun at her temple during an argument.
Andrews was arrested at his home on 10 Connors Ave. He is charged with assault by means of a dangerous weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm.
Police say they found a .45-caliber, believed to be Andrews', near a dumpster.
This is not the first time Andrews has had a run-in with police. Shortly after the Super Bowl, Andrews was busted for marijuana possession and driving an unregistered vehicle in Lowell.
Andrews was spared prison time after entering a plea to the possession charge. According to authorities, Andrews had a half-pound of marijuana on him when police pulled him over.
In that case, Andrews was ordered to speak to student athletes about the dangers of narcotics, pay a $1,000 fine and complete an NFL substance abuse program.
