Wilmington Dad Hurt In Fight With Football Coach

Join The Conversation: Parents Vs. Coaches

WILMINGTON (WBZ) ― A Wilmington father who was hurt in a fight with a Pop Warner football coach last week met with the District Attorney's office Monday at Woburn District Court.

"Listen I have no comment," William VonKahle briefly told WBZ in the court house.

"I just want to take care of this in court, that's what I'm here for today."

Police say VonKahle suffered a shattered eye socket, a concussion and a broken nose in the brawl. There's no indication coach William Reynolds was hurt.

It all started when VonKahle and his 12-year-old son arrived late to practice Friday night and Reynolds made the boy run extra laps.

VonKahle argued the boy should not be punished for the father's mistake, and the dispute escalated. Both men went to a secluded area off the field to settle their differences.

Wilmington Police say both men accused the other of throwing the first punch.

After the fight, VonKahle went to the police station. But Deputy Chief Robert Richter says no arrests have been made because this is a case of "he said, he said."

There's little evidence and no witnesses to account for the fight. Wilmington police are still looking into it.

VonKahle can press charges against the coach in district court which is what he is believed to have done Monday. That filing would be confidential until the court clerk acts on the application.

Calls to Reynolds' home went unanswered Monday.

The Pop Warner League president suspended him, saying violence should not be a part of youth sports.
