WORCESTER (WBZ) ― The College of the Holy Cross honored one of its famous graduates Saturday with a statue.

Celtics legend Bob Cousy is now immortalized outside the Hart Recreation Center on campus with a life-size bronze statue.

Cousy graduated from Holy Cross in 1950. He was a three-time All American and won a national championship there in 1947.

He played for the Celtics from 1951 to 1963, winning six NBA championships.

In a statement, the school said it wanted to honor Cousy "not only for his extraordinary basketball career at Holy Cross and with the Boston Celtics, but also for his generous and long-term commitment to the citizenry of Worcester and for his efforts to integrate the NBA racially during its early years."
