Owners of an appliance store in Worcester expect to pay out seven figures if, or when, the Patriots win the Super Bowl.
Its part of a promotion Percy's claims to have originated, and the owners say it's helping them through tough times.
Percy's specializes in appliances, TV, audio and video. Needless to say TV's are big seller right before the Super Bowl.
Right now with the Super Bowl drives extra traffic into the store. So much so that owners of Percy's in Worcester say the Pats record run is helping offset effects of the tough economy.
"It's probably the only sporting event where people actually upgrade their sets to watch one game on one day," says David Lavine, Co-owner of Percy's.
Lavine says the Super Bowl is helping business even more than Christmas. Keep in mind; he says Christmas accounts for 10 to 15% of the store's business.
Lavine says between Christmas and the Super Bowl is will probably account for 20 to 30% of the store's business in the next year.
Bob Giasi of Holden came to Percy's looking for a new TV to watch the big game on.
"The pictures are wonderful. It was time to upgrade and so that's what we did," Giasi said as he bought a 46-inch TV from Percy's.
Percy's has been betting on the big game for half dozen years or more.
If you took advantage of their promotion last September and the Patriots win the Super Bowl, your purchase is free.
Despite the big pay out of the Pats win, the store's owners say their still rooting for a Patriots' win.
"We definitely want the patriots to win," says Lavine. "Because it's all insured. It's a fully insured program. So if we pay out 7 figures, hopefully some people put their money back into the system."
Even though Percy's is surrounded by big super stores, the family-run business has been around for 80 years.
It's probably a safe bet that the only thing Percy's is looking forward to more than this Super Bowl Sunday is the next one, not to mention the World Series, March Madness and the NBA Playoffs.
