Man Suspected In Central Mass. Prostitute Murders

WORCESTER (WBZ) ― Investigators may have a suspect in the unsolved murders of several prostitutes in the Main South district of Worcester.

A Berlin, Mass. man has been linked by DNA to the strangling death of a Fitchburg prostitute in 1996, the Worcester District Attorney's Office said.

Police say 38-year-old Alex Scesny is also a person of interest in the deaths of five other women, whose skeletal remains were found in several central Massachusetts locations, dating back five years ago.

His DNA was taken when he was arrested in connection with a March 2007 rape at the Reservoir Motor Lodge in West Boylston. It later connected him with the Oct. 23, 1996 slaying of 39-year-old Theresa Stone.

Police said the woman in the rape case told authorities she was dating Scesny when he tried to smother her with a pillow after forcing her to have sex with him at the Reservoir Motor Lodge.

A profile of the Main South serial killer describes him in part as a construction worker with a drunken driving record.

While investigators say Scesny does fit the profile, they say there are other persons of interest that do as well.

Police said they had been keeping an eye on Scesny since the skeletons of Worcester prostitutes were discovered in Marlboro and Hudson five years ago.

Scesny has a history of violence and a drunken driving record.

The skeletal remains of Betzaida Montalvo and Carmen Rudy were found on the grounds of Hillside School in Marlboro in 2003, while Dinelia Torres' skeleton was found in 2004 in Hudson.

Wendy Morello's body was found in 2004 in a trash can in Maine. Three years later, a hunter found the skeletal remains of 34-year-old Lineida Olivera near Rutland State Forest.

Scesny is currently being held without bail in connection with a Worcester Superior Court rape case.

The mother of the alleged rape victim in the March 2007 case said she is thankful her daughter came forward and that Scesny is behind bars.
