College Student Killed In Worcester
WORCESTER (WBZ) ―
A 19-year-old
Becker College student was murdered over the weekend following a fight in an off-campus apartment.
William Smith was a sports management major from Scotland, Md.
He had just transferred to Becker from a school in West Virginia and was planning to play for the basketball team this season. His uncle is
Tubby Smith, the coach at the University of Minnesota and former coach at the University of Kentucky.
Worcester police said Smith was stabbed early Sunday morning after a fight broke out inside an apartment party and spilled out into the street.
Investigators do not believe the attackers were Becker College students. There have been no arrests.
Vice President of Student Affairs Kenneth Cameron said in a
statement that the school has informed students and faculty of the tragedy and counseling will be offered on the campus.
"We joked around a lot, called him Fresh Prince," teammate Terrance Favors told WBZ. "He was a nice kid, nice smile. It's kind of sad it happened this way."
