Blackstone River To Turn Red Briefly

WORCESTER (AP) ― People who live and work on the Blackstone River in central Massachusetts shouldn't be alarmed if they notice that the water has turned red.

The U.S. Geological Survey is releasing a small amount of harmless red dye into the river in Worcester Wednesday that will help scientists understand the river's flow, water quality and the movement of contaminants.

Agency officials say the dye represents no danger to humans, wildlife or the environment.

This is the third time dye has been released into the water and the study is being conducted in conjunction with state environmental agencies.
