Dog Walker Finds Human Remains
LANCASTER (WBZ) ―
Authorities say a man walking his dog found human remains in Lancaster Monday night.
The Worcester District Attorney's office says the remains were found wrapped in plastic at Old Union Turnpike and Fire Road 8.
They have been sent to the medical examiner in Boston for identification and to determine a cause of death.
The man who discovered the remains called his son, Adam Poulin, who then rushed to help is father.
"It was like mummified. If you got close enough you could tell -- you could see the shape of the body inside the tape," Poulin said. "A toe was sticking out of it."
Poulin said the body was wrapped in some type of clear packing tape.
"It was pretty well done from what we could see," he said. "Someone put a lot of effort into it."
Local residents say they think a killer used the secluded area to dump the body.
"If anything it's just off the side of the highway between two exits. If somebody was getting rid of something it would seem a good place to do it," said neighbor George Portuomdo.
"There are no street lights on that turnpike. There are no street lights on our street," said neighbor Paul Revell. "So when the sun goes down it gets dark."
"It's just sad that somebody ended up in that condition," said neighbor Bob Nolan. "It's a tragic thing."
Police have released few details about the case, and they won't say how long they believe the body had been there.
However, residents say the area is a very popular walking spot, and they say the body would likely have been spotted within a couple days of being dumped.
