Mass. Most Wanted Fugitive Captured In Oregon
BOSTON (WBZ) ―
One of Massachusetts' Most Wanted fugitives has been captured in Oregon after nearly a year on the run.
Michael Bresnahan, 36, was arrested Monday evening in Cottage Grove, Ore., where police say he tried to outrun them along some railroad tracks.
Bresnahan is wanted for allegedly terrorizing and sexually assaulting a 61-year-old woman in her home in Winchendon last year.
Police say he broke into the former school teacher's house Aug. 30, 2007 and used a knife to hold her hostage for more than two hours while assaulting her.
Investigators turned their search to Oregon earlier this month after he was spotted in a store there Aug. 2. Last Saturday, he was featured on "America's Most Wanted."
A day later, police say viewers recognized him after he alleged stole beer from a convenience store in Cottage Grove. After confirming the sighting with surveillance video, police began an intensive search of the town.
They received a tip Monday evening that he was walking along railroad tracks in the area. An off-duty police officer spotted him, chased him down in his personal car, and captured him at gunpoint.
Bresnahan was arraigned as a fugitive and will eventually be returned to Massachusetts, where he will be arraigned in Worcester County.
