Search For Missing Worcester Woman Intensifies
WORCESTER (WBZ) ―
Police are intensifying their search for a Worcester woman who has been missing for a week.
Patricia Santos, 36, has not been seen since May 19. She was reported missing two days later when she didn't show up for work.
"The need is to find her," said Worcester Sgt. Kerry Hazelhurst. "Given the circumstances of her disappearance and the concern her friends and co-workers are showing us."
Her ex-boyfriend was seen driving Santos' Ford Mustang after her disappearance. Police say Santos has a restraining order against her ex-boyfriend, 48-year-old Albert Carabba. When police spotted Carabba he stopped the car and fled on foot into a wooded area. Police later caught up with him and arrested him on charges unrelated to Santos' disappearance.
Carabba told police Santos gave him the car after she allegedly started using drugs again and was moving to Florida. However, the woman's friends and family tell police she would never lend her car to him.
Investigators say they are following all leads.
Police say it's possible Santos relapsed into drug abuse and could be at a rehab facility, but they say it's unlikely because she has been clean for two years.
Investigators found an unused shovel inside Santos' car.
"We want to backtrack and see when (the shovel) was purchased," Sgt. Hazelhurst said. "We don't know if it's something to do with work, or something more sinister, we don't know."
