Fitchburg Officer Charged With Rape Of Woman

WORCESTER (WBZ) ― A Fitchburg police officer has been arrested and charted with rape, according to a newspaper report.

Officer Robert Soroka, 28, allegedly raped a 28-year-old woman on Wednesday, the Worcester Telegram and Gazette said.

Police Chief Robert DeMoura told the paper Soroka and his alleged victim knew each other.

According to the paper, Soroka, who joined the force in 2006, was one of the six patrolmen expected to lose their job in Tuesday's layoffs.

The case is being transferred to another court for further action, Assistant D.A. Joseph Quinlan told the Gazette.
