Multi-Family Home In Worcester Consumed By Fire

WORCESTER (WBZ) ― A massive fire has consumed a multi-family home in Worcester.

The blaze broke out around 5:30 a.m. on Hudson Street Sunday. Luckily, everyone inside the building made it out safely.

Costa and Florenc Sandaola are some of the 15 residents left homeless after the fire. "We don't have nothing... green card, passort.. just like this," said Costa.

Costa and her husband escaped death by minutes. The couple was sleeping when the fire started. They were awakened by firefighters and escaped just before the ceiling collapsed in their bedroom. "We are lucky," she said. "Thank God. Everyone is alive."

The fire spread to another building and reached three alarms before it was brought under control. "We were playing catch-up for the first 30, 40 minutes of this fire. There was a heavy, heavy volume of fire," said Worcester Fire Chief Frank Diliddo.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. One firefighter was injured.
