Prostitute Explains Why Craigslist Is So Appealing

Slideshow: Faces Of The 'Craigslist Killer'

WORCESTER (WBZ) ― A Worcester woman, one of 50 people who were arrested by Worcester police in a weekend sex sting, talked to WBZ's Dawn Hasbrouck about why she posted ads on Craigslist knowing the "Craigslist Killer" was still at large.

Sgt. Matthew Early of the department's Vice Squad says between last Thursday afternoon and early Saturday morning police picked up 30 men and women on the south end of Main Street in Worcester.

They also arrested 20 who responded to ads officers posted on Craigslist under "Erotic Services."

During the sting, police booked two rooms at a hotel in Worcester and waited for people to show up.

One of the women arrested in the sting, whose name is only being identified as Mary, said she continued to post ads on Craigslist even though she knew of the "Craigslist Killer."

"I have an addiction to money. It's faster. Easier. I got bills. I got kids," Mary said.

Mary's full name is not being used because she says she will continue to advertise on the Web site.

The single mother of four charges $200 to $250 per hour for whatever her customer wants.

She admits she is concerned about her safety for the sake of her kids.

"I think about if I don't come home to them, who's going to take care of them," she said.

Mary says she pulled her ad after her arrest this past weekend, but says she will probably post ads again because she needs the money.

When asked if she was afraid of the "Craigslist Killer," Mary said, "It's scary. It could happen. I mean it could happen to anybody."

Worcester police say this was their third sting in eight months, and they plan to do more.
