Driver Nabbed Following Wrong-Way Highway Chase

James Pahlete of Pembroke is in custory after leading State Police on a high-speed, wrong-way chase on routes 24 and 495.

A Pembroke man was arrested following a wild chase that saw a Jeep Cherokee speeding at times in the wrong direction -- along routes 24 and 495 at speeds up to 90 mph, State Police said.
James Palhete, 42, was finally nabbed after he jumped out of the vehicle on Route 24 south in Raynham, State Police said.
The chase began in Hanson after Palhete struck two motorcyclists and sped away, Hanson police said. The cyclists suffered minor inujuries.
Hanson said Palhete is well known to area law enforrcement agencies.
State Police picked up the chase on Route 24 North near Exit 15 at 12:25 p.m., they said.
The vehicle evaded police for nearly a half-hour, speeding up and down routes 24 and 495, sometimes in the wrong direction.
Palhete was finally arrested by Trooper Shane Suarez at 12:53 p.m., State Police said.
Amazingly, no one was hurt.
Palhete will be arraigned Monday in Taunton District Court.
