Newspaper Columnist: 'Belichick Is Evil'

SAN DIEGO (WBZ) ― What do Bill Belichick and Doctor Evil have in common?

A whole lot, according to a San Diego newspaper columnist.

In a column published in the Tuesday edition of the San Diego Union-Tribune, columnist Nick Canepa has this to say about the Patriots Head Coach:

"Meanwhile, there's Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots.  Belichick is as good a coach as we've seen, but he's evil. He makes Al Davis look like Barney Fife. He's a captured cheater."

The comment comes after Canepa takes shots at several others including Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo and Colts signal caller Peyton Manning.

Apparently Canepa wasn't happy with a story he read in a national paper complaining that the Chargers - and not the Colts - would be playing the Patriots this Sunday in the AFC Championship game.

He's also apparently still upset about last year's game when the Patriots knocked the Chargers out of the playoffs after San Diego posted an NFL-best 14-2 record in 2006.

Canepa writes: "The Chargers are Baja West Coast. Their quarterback, Philip Rivers, gets in arguments with fans. Their players dance (even their coach, weakly). They're demonstrative, although they weren't the ones doing the rumba on the San Diego logo after last January's playoff game here. I believe they were the Boston tea throwers."

The "dance" was in response to Charger Shawne Merriman's controversial "sack dance."

He also goes on to just about guarantee a Chargers win, and says the Patriots don't deserve to be undefeated anyway.

Canepa writes: "The Chargers were blown out by the Patriots in Week 2, but this isn't Week 2 anymore. Anyone who has seen New England over the past month and believes it's as good as it was in November hasn't seen a football game."

He then adds: "The Chargers slaughtered Baltimore, and if the officials hadn't screwed the Ravens, the Pats no longer would be unbeaten. It's about playing, not image. The Chargers have developed a punk persona, which doesn't endear them to the masses, but, once again, that's too bad."
