John McCain returned to New Hampshire Wednesday to thank the voters who launched him on his way to the Republican presidential nomination and to show he will keep the town hall meetings that are a hallmark of the state.
The Arizona senator said he often learns more about issues than the voters learn about him in the meetings.
At an event in Exeter, McCain was asked if former rival Mitt Romney would be a possible running mate.
"I think he's a fine man and I appreciate the contribution he's made," McCain said.
"But I can't make a defintive statement because we haven't started the process yet. We don't have a list."
He says he's spoken to Romney several times since the former Massachusetts governor dropped out of the White House race, but not about the vice presidency.
Romney said Tuesday he'd be willing to be considered to be McCain's running mate.
McCain has a fundraiser in Boston Wednesday night.
