Bowling Anyone? Poll Gets Personal With Candidates

BOSTON (WBZ) ―

Time to 'fess up. When it comes time to pick a president, how many of you really look hard at issues? And how many just vote for the one we think we'd most like to go bowling with?

A new poll from the Associated Press and Yahoo measures how voters rank the personal qualities of this crop of candidates. If you expect this poll to bring clarity to a muddled race for president, forget about it. Instead it has both good news and bad news for some of the big names in the race.

Hillary Clinton

Let's start with Hillary Clinton, who can smile about the poll's finding that strength is the second-most important quality to voters, and more of them think of her as stronger than any other candidate. You go, Senator.

Now, the bad news for Hillary: honesty is the most important thing voters want in a candidate, and she ranks lower there than other top Democrats. How did that happen?

Rudy Giuliani

What about GOP frontrunner Rudy Giuliani? The bad news is, he's the candidate voters would least like to have on their bowling team. Can you imagine? Hey, you're doing it all wrong, put down that pizza slice!

The good news for Giuliani: physical beauty is the least important quality to voters, and they see Giuliani as the least attractive candidate. Congratulations mayor!

Mitt Romney

What did voters say about local export Mitt Romney? Being liberal is the second-least important quality, and Romney is tied with John McCain for the title of least liberal candidate. All that flip-flopping paid off.

But there is bad news here for Romney as well. He's seen as the least honest, the least strong, and the least desirable bowling partner among the GOP candidates.

Romney can easily turn those numbers around. All he has to do is set up the bowling league with free pizza.
