Mitt Romney To Be John McCain's Vice President?

BOSTON (WBZ) ― At a fundraiser Wednesday night in Boston for Republican presidential hopeful John McCain there was one topic that was on everyone's minds: who would be his running mate.

On Tuesday, former Massachusetts Governor and one time Republican presidential hopeful, Mitt Romney said he'd be willing to be considered to be McCain's running mate.

Before his Boston fundraiser, McCain visited New Hampshire, where he thanked supporters for resurrecting his campaign and he promised to keep the town hall meetings that are a hallmark of the state.

There the Arizona Senator was asked about the possibility of Romney as his running mate.

"I believe that Governor Romney fought a very tough, fine campaign, and he has earned himself a place in the future of the Republican Party," said McCain.

He added that he's spoken to his former rival several times since Romney dropped out of the White House race, but not about the vice presidency.
Some of those attending Wednesday's fundraiser in Boston loved the idea.

"Oh I think it's the cat's meow. M and M is a good one for me." said McCain supporter, State Representative, Mary Rogeness.

"I think Romney McCain would be awesome," said another supporter attending the fundraiser.

Others weren't so hot about the two of them on the same ticket.

"Right now I would hope that he might look a little bit more broadly," said McCain supporter, Mike Berry. Berry said he wasn't a big fan of Romney, "No not giving the flip flopping he did during the primary season," he said.

Former Massachusetts Governor Paul Cellucci introduced McCain at the Boston fundraiser and says Romney is a fine choice but there are others.

"I think there's a lot I know Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson from Texas, I heard someone talk about Condoleezza Rice," said Cellucci. "I think that there's a lot of people that would be good running mates for Senator McCain."

There's no consensus on the running mate question but all Republicans who attend Wednesday night's fundraiser did agree on one thing. When asked which democrat they'd like to see go up against McCain in November's presidential election they all answered Hillary Clinton. When asked why they said she'd be the easiest to beat.

Romney did not attend the Boston fundraiser; we're told he was having a private dinner with his family to celebrate his 61st birthday.
