Peggy From NH: Candidates Didn't Answer Question

AMHERST, N.H. (AP) ― The rest of the country and the presidential candidates know her as "Peggy from Amherst, New Hampshire."

We now know that the woman who supplied the final question for the presidential debate this week was Peggy Silva, the writing and literacy coordinator at Souhegan High School.

Her question: "What don't you know and how will you learn it?" She e-mailed it to NBC and had no idea moderator Tom Brokaw would read it at the debate.

Silva says Souhegan asks students to delve deeply into their learning by asking questions for which there are no easy answers.

She said she didn't get any answers from John McCain or Barack Obama. She called their responses "non-answers," and said it was the second time McCain heard the question.

Read the candidates' responses in the debate transcript.

She asked him the same thing during the New Hampshire Presidential Primary in 2000. She said he gave her a hug after his primary appearance and said she had stumped him.
