Record Voter Turnout Expected At NH Primary

MANCHESTER, N.H. (WBZ) ― A record turnout is expected for Tuesday's New Hampshire Primary, according Sec. of State Bill Gardner.

"There's someone for everyone to come out and vote for," Gardner said Friday. "This is like a presidential election in November. This is huge."

Gardner is predicting 260,000 Democrats and about 240,000 republicans will be voting on December 8. "These numbers are of historic proportions," he said.

He believes that 150,000 undeclared voters -- who can choose which primary to vote in -- will cast votes. Of those, he thinks 90,000 will choose to vote in the Democratic primary and 60,000 in the Republican.

Galvin is also expecting 50,000 New Hampshire residents to register to vote on election day.

"I sense a level of interest that exceeds what I remember from previous primaries," he said.

The previous record of 396,000 voters was set in the 2000 primary.
