Sen. Kennedy To Receive Honorary Harvard Degree

CAMBRIDGE (AP) ― Sen. Edward Kennedy's office has announced that he'll receive an honorary Harvard University degree at a special convocation ceremony on Dec. 1.

The state's senior senator was originally scheduled to receive the degree at Harvard's commencement last spring, but he could not attend since he was recuperating from brain surgery.

The Democrat, who graduated from Harvard in 1956, said he was "enormously grateful" for the honor.

Kennedy was diagnosed about six months ago with a severe form of brain cancer.

He has been recovering at his Cape Cod home and in Washington, and has vowed to return to the Senate in January.
