Sen. Edward Kennedy was met with tears and cheers as he addressed delegates at the Democratic National Convention in Denver Monday night.
After a
video tribute to the senator filled with his accomplishments and successes, Kennedy was introduced to a cheering crowd and a sea of Kennedy posters. "My fellow Democrats, my fellow Americans, it is so wonderful to be here," he said. "And nothing is going to keep me away from this special gathering tonight."
"I have come here tonight to stand here with you, to change America, to restore its future, to rise to its best ideal and to elect Barack Obama to the president of the United States."
"I pledge to you, that I will be there next January on the floor of the United States Senate."
It was unclear if Kennedy would even attend the DNC at all because of his ongoing battle with brain cancer.
Early Monday, it was learned the Massachusetts senator had indeed arrived in Denver and as a precaution, had gotten a checkup at a local hospital.
After his
speech, Kennedy was met by family and friends on stage as the band played "Still the One."
