WBZ-TV is Broadcaster of 112th Boston Marathon

  AS SOLE LOCAL BROADCASTER FOR THE SECOND YEAR IN A ROW, WBZ-TV ANNOUNCES NEW & EXCLUSIVE PLANS FOR 2008
BOSTON, MA – April 16, 2008 – WBZ-TV, the exclusive, local broadcaster of the 112th running of the Boston Marathon, is proud to announce its coverage plans for Monday, April 21, 2008. Carrying out a long tradition of complete marathon coverage, WBZ-TV will again be the only local station to broadcast the race, bringing exclusive, comprehensive, live coverage of one of the region's premiere sporting events. The day's coverage kicks off at 5:00AM with WBZ-TV News in the Morning anchored by Paula Ebben live at Hopkinton Green and David Wade in-studio. Meteorologist Todd Gutner will also be live from Hopkinton Green with live weather updates for Marathon day.

Marathon Preview 8-9AM…
From 8-9AM, WBZ-TV presents a Marathon Preview co-hosted by anchors Jonathan Elias and Lisa Hughes. Hughes will report from the finish line in Boston, and Elias will report from Hopkinton Green. WBZ-TV's sports anchor/reporter Steve Burton will report from the start line in Hopkinton and will feature athletes as they prepare to run. WBZ-TV reporters David "Robi" Robichaud and Peg Rusconi will also be in on the action. "Robi" will report from Heartbreak Hill and Peg will report from Cleveland Circle.

WBZ-TV Marathon Race Coverage 9AM-3PM…
Following the hour-long preview special at 8:00AM, WBZ-TV will begin continuing coverage of the Marathon at 9:00AM. Sports Director Bob Lobel will continue pre-race coverage from Boston's Boylston Street finish line. He will be joined throughout the day by WBZ-TV's marathon experts: Kathrine Switzer, who was the first woman to officially compete in the Boston Marathon or to wear an official bib number, and legendary marathon commentator Toni Reavis.

At 9:25AM, WBZ-TV will cover the start of the wheelchair race live, followed by the start for elite women runners at 9:35AM. WBZ-TV coverage continues with the 10:00AM start of the elite men and all other runners participating in the 112th Boston Marathon.

Offering a front row perspective from the lead men's truck will be former BAA race director and WBZ-TV long-time marathon consultant, Tim Kilduff. WBZ-TV's Sports Reporter Alice Cook will report from the women's truck. In addition, WBZ-TV's team will be stationed throughout the course to show as many runners as possible with Steve Burton at the start line, David Robichaud at Heartbreak Hill, Peg Rusconi at Cleveland Circle, and Dr. Mallika Marshall, Jack Williams, and Lisa Hughes at the medical tent. Post race coverage and a complete wrap-up of the day's events will follow on WBZ-TV News at 5PM, 6PM and 11PM.

Web Exclusive on wbztv.com: Elite Race streaming live…
New England Region Exclusive: Beginning at 9AM, wbztv.com will stream live video of the elite men's and women's races. This online coverage is only available in the New England area. wbztv.com will have footage from live cameras along the marathon route from 9AM-3PM and beginning at Noon, wbztv.com will have footage from a live camera at the finish line until about 4:30PM.

Also on wbztv.com, the Find a Friend tool will be available, which allows you to track your family, friends and favorite runners. Once the race has begun, you will see a link on wbztv.com's homepage that will walk you through finding an athlete's progress and split time. Just enter your friend's name or bib number, then look to see where live cameras are located on the course to catch your friends as they run past them.
