Signed Baseball Stolen From N.H. Girl's Suitcase

Jim Smith
BOSTON (WBZ) ― A little girl from New Hampshire is heartbroken this Monday after returning home with her family from Red Sox Spring Training in Florida.

It seems that someone stole an autographed baseball out of the little girl's suitcase.

"I cried for a really long time, and nothing will make me feel better," says Katina Lopez, who took the trip to Florida with her mom and brother.

At Spring Training, the nine year old got a baseball signed by Red Sox Coco Crisp and her hero Manny Ramirez.

The family says when Katina checked her suitcase into the Delta Airlines counter in Sarasota, Florida the ball was in there. They flew back to Logan, but when Katina opened up her suitcase there, the ball was gone.

"I put my ball in my suitcase, and then I wanted to show my mom's friend
but it wasn't there," said Katina. "I was really sad and I was kinda mad."

"Katina was crying right away, she said 'no it's not here; I put it here and it's jnot here.' She was incontrollably and couldn't be consoled," says Katina's Mom, Lynne Lopez.

Lynne couldn't believe it, so she called Delta Airlines.

At first Delta offered to reimburse the Lopez' for the cost of the baseball, but the family says it's priceless.

"She was just like crying, and saying someone stole my baseball; and I'll never get one again," says Katina's 11-year-old brother, Jordan.

As for Katina, she says only one thing will make her happy.

"If they could get me a new ball and sign it. I'd be really happy because someone stole my other one," she says.

Her brother's ball wasn't missing from his suitcase, but that one didn't have Manny's signature on it.

Delta has promised to investigate.
