Road Trip: Foxwoods

Save Money, And Still See What New England Has To Offer

Gas Price Patrol

Lori Lennon
(WBZ) You have probably spent all summer going on family vacations and family outings, so why not take a trip alone or with your significant other before school starts up and you find yourself helping with homework and making bagged lunches.

Head to Connecticut, where there is a place grownups can be kids again -- where fun is around every corner and everyday life can be forgotten about.

Welcome to Foxwoods Resort Casino.

Foxwoods is the largest casino in the world – covering 340,000 square feet with more than 40,000 guests visiting each day.

Right now, another development is in the works that will add to Foxwoods' already vast complex. The MGM Grand at Foxwoods is a new, $700 million project that is expected to be completed in the spring of 2008. The development will add almost two million square feet to Foxwoods and will contain even more entertainment facilities, restaurants and gaming rooms.

Be A Risk-Taker At Foxwoods' Gaming Facility

One of the most popular highlights of Foxwoods is, of course, the gaming facility. Visitors can choose between several games, including table games, slots, poker, bingo, Keno and racing.

Foxwoods houses more than 7,000 slot and video poker machines -- and for the risk taker in all of us, there are over 300 card games that you can take a chance on.

Bingo is also a very popular game at Foxwoods and is played in one of the largest bingo halls in the world. You do have to buy tickets to play bingo, and they do sell out fast. It is suggested you show up early to the bingo hall (doors usually open one-and-a-half hours before the beginning of the game). You can also purchase tickets in advance on Foxwoods' Web site.

Dine Out In Style

Eating out can be such a wonderful experience. Who wouldn't want to get dressed up and head out to an elegant restaurant with your significant other for a special night out?

Foxwoods offers just that. In fact, the Paragon located at Foxwoods is one of the only seven restaurants in Connecticut to earn the AAA Four Diamond Award of excellence, which means they offer superior food, fantastic wines, impeccable service and a view that is like no other (The restaurant is located on the 24th floor of the Grand Pequot Tower.). But you do have to make sure to book a reservation before your night out.

A reservation and proper dress are required for several of Foxwoods' fine dining restaurants.

If gourmet dining is not your thing, Foxwoods has many other restaurants to suit everyone's style. They also offer quick meals at some of your favorite restaurants, including California Pizza Kitchen, Fuddruckers and the Foxwoods Hard Rock Café. And if you are looking for something quick, there are several sandwich shops and café's to choose from.

Entertainment At Foxwoods

Most people would love to be a star, if only for a day -- and that is exactly how you will feel when you head to the entertainment facilities at Foxwoods. You can attend boxing matches, rock out in one of their nightclubs, attend a theater event, see a concert or even just kick back and play a couple of video games at Foxwoods' arcade.

If you are looking for some of the best comedy and music around, head to Foxwoods' Fox Theater, but if you are looking for a more intimate setting, you can spend the night at one of the many lounges.

The performers and fights are constantly changing, so be sure to check Foxwoods' entertainment schedule before heading out on your vacation.

Foxwoods is a fantastic place to really get away from it all. It is a place where you can spend a weekend or a week and feel completely relaxed when you get home. One of the best parts of staying at Foxwoods is that once you get there, you will not need your car again until you are ready to go home. Everything you need is right at your fingertips, which makes for a safe and stress-free time.

Even though Foxwoods is known for its gaming facility, there are so many other things to do, which makes the trip fun and exciting for everyone.

Other things to do while at Foxwoods:

-- Shopping at Foxwoods

-- Perfect your golf swing at the Lake of Isles Golf Academy

-- Golfing at Foxwoods

-- Relax at Foxwoods' salon and spa.
