Mike Timlin, Johnny Damon Featured On 'Arthur'

BOSTON (CBS4) ― The Red Sox are teaming up with a popular cartoon character. Arthur has enlisted a few key players for his own baseball team, and the story line for this episode isn't so far-fetched.

Most families are familiar with Arthur, the loveable cartoon aardvark who has attracted millions of kids to PBS television since 1996.

Well, Arthur asked Red Sox player Mike Timlin, along with former Red Sox Johnny Damon and Edgar Renteria to join his cartoon team, "The Grebes."

The episode was created late last year, when all three were on the team and it aired on Monday morning.

"We play on The Grebes," explains Timlin.

"The Grebes are the best team around, next to the Sox," Damon said last December when he voiced the character of "Playmon."

Damon became an animated bear named Playmon. Timlin became a deer, Winlin. And Renteria became a bear named Bateria.

The story line is a familiar one for the Red Sox. Arthur's team hasn't won a championship since 1918. So Playmon, Winlin, and Bateria are called upon to break the curse.

"The story is breaking the curse, but the theme is really about team work… our main character thinks he is the curse," says Executive Producer Pierre Vallette.

But Johnny Damon breaks the curse by hitting a game-winning home run.

"The Grebes, man that is a great team," Timlin says. "I dont know if you have seen us play, but we are awesome."

The cartoon Arthur is celebrating ten years on TV, and 30 years on bookshelves.
