A new movie about an on-line killer may have some news you can use, thanks to a local company.
It all begins with actress Diane Lane, and a Massachusetts web tools company, whose software is used by Lane's character to catch an internet killer with the click of a mouse in the movie "Untraceable".
Richard Person, CEO of Newburyport based DNSStuff.com, and says his company's software could be used to do just that.
Person says the software isn't just used in the movies; it's used by organizations around the world. "The Pentagon, the F.B.I., Interpol. We were instrumental in helping Interpol for example find one of the world's most notorious sexual predators," says Person.
You don't have to be a genius or a global intelligence organization to find use for the software. Person says it's perfect for parents too.
"It's actually very easy to do," says Person. "Even for a parent, they can do a few simple steps that could you know perhaps mean the difference between something bad happening and something good happening in terms of the outcome
Mom can do it at home, and she's empowered now, and she can do things that some of the most sophisticated security people in the world can do too."
Richard walked Joyce through it.
They typed in a suspicious website, and within seconds they had a map and location.
"Think of it sort of like C.S.I. forensics on the internet," says Person.
The program costs as little as $36 a year.
