association" between problematic imported Chinese drywall and corrosion
of pipes and wires, a conclusion that supports complaints by thousands
of homeowners over the last year. In its second report on the
potentially defective building materials, the U.S. Consumer Product
Safety Commission said its investigation also has found a "possible"
link between health problems reported by homeowners and
higher-than-normal levels of hydrogen sulfide gas emitted from the
wallboard coupled with formaldehyde, which is commonly found in new
houses.<br />

the highest level in 2 1/2 years as first-time buyers rushed to take

showed, though they are still 16 percent below the peak in autumn 2005.
At the current sales pace, there is only a 7-month supply of homes on
the market and in some areas there are bidding wars.

Overall, the number of reported hate crimes increased about 2 percent.
These same figures show a nearly 11 percent increase in hate crimes
based on sexual orientation, and a nearly 9 percent increase in hate
crimes based on religion.

prisoners for an Israeli soldier held for more than three years by the

Monday. Israeli President Shimon Peres, who met with Egypt's
president in Cairo Sunday, confirmed progress in the negotiations to
free captured soldier Sgt. Gilad Schalit, but Israeli officials refused
to comment further. Hamas' deputy political leader, Moussa Abu Marzouk,
also said "there is progress" in the talks.
