Photos Released Of Right Whale Birth

For the first time ever, photos of a right whale giving birth off the coast of Florida in 2005 have been released.  The photos were taken by New England Aquarium researcher Monica Zani. The photos were finally released this month after they were published in the scientific journal "Aquatic Mammals."

The expectant whale mother, Cat's Paw, is positioned on her side just below the water line. Her tail flukes are visible, and she is thrashing from side to side.
