Trade Your Old CDs For A Free iPod

(CBS4) 12-year-old Eric Dumas couldn't wait to rip the packaging tape off the box sitting on his kitchen table. Inside was the iPOD he had been bugging his father to buy. "Wow!" he said, "an iPOD Nano, awesome." Eric was thrilled with his new toy and what makes it even better, he got it for free.

So how did he do it? He traded his old CD's to Millennium Music.com. It's a used CD retailer based in Charleston, South Carolina.

You need to send 35 cds for an iPOD shuffle. They'll give you a 2 gig Nano for 65 cds. The top of the line video IPOD will cost you 175 cds.

John Hanzle of Boston got the video iPOD. He found Millennium while surfing the net. His wife Amy was skeptical at first. "I thought it was some kind of scam", she said. But she soon realized that all she had to lose was a bunch of dusty old cds that they never listened to anymore. "We basically counted them, put them back in a box, put a shipping label on them and got an IPOD back in the mail," John explained.

The transaction wasn't entirely hassle-free.

Millennium rejected dozens of their cds because they weren't popular artists, or they were in tough shape. Millennium gave them a choice of sending more cds, or a check for 80 dollars for their video IPOD. Anxious to get the deal done, John and Amy sent the check. "It was still a valid deal," said John. "We weren't doing anything with the cds anyway."

For John and Eric, the end result was music to the ears.
