At Home With The Lockharts

BOSTON (WBZ) ― At home with Keith Lockhart and Emiley Zalesky-Lockhart -- still newlyweds, they married less than a year ago.

"She sings rather well for a lawyer actually, and we sing to each other all the time."

That is when Lockhart is not conducting the world renowned Boston Pops.

How did they meet? Keith had just finished a show and was in a Boston restaurant. Emiley struck up a conversation. "We ended up chatting for a fairly long period of time," said Keith.

But there was one hitch -- she was with a date.

Joyce: Did your date get jealous?

Emiley: I think probably a little bit. I think it was, you know, an odd situation at the very least.

Joyce: Was there an instant connection?

Emiley and Keith: Yeah.

Emily is a lawyer and they both lead extremely busy lives, so home time is precious.

Joyce: When you can get away from it all, what's your favorite way to relax?

Emiley: One of the things that we like to do together usually involve being just with each other.

Keith: We both love good food and good wine and that's the best kind of date because you actually talk to the other person.

Keith has been at the pops podium for 14 seasons.

Joyce: You are no longer the new kid on the block. So what is act two for the pops?

Keith: That's the ongoing question… It's about trying to figure out how you disseminate cultural entertainment. The Web will have a lot to do with how we do that in the future. But it's exciting, it's scary.

Joyce: What is it like when you watch Keith conducting?

Emiley: Oh, it's so exciting, truly it is. It's something that comes naturally to him, and I love seeing him be happy and he's so happy when he's up there conducting… I get nervous sometimes. He's very active, jumps around a lot when conducting and there's no rail behind him.

Keith also said he intends to do more guest conducting and will take little more time to enjoy the world around him.
