Boston Athletes All Over ESPY Nominations
BOSTON (WBZ) ―
ESPN has announced the nominations for its annual
ESPY Awards, and no surprise that with the year Boston sports teams are having, a number of local athletes and teams made the list.
Patriots quarterback and endorsement king Tom Brady is up for Best Male Athlete. He has stiff competition in Tiger Woods, Kobe Bryant and A-Rod.
Brady is also nominated with teammate Randy Moss in the Best Record Breaking Performance category, for the pair's countless connections last season. Both are also nominated for Best NFL Player.
Not to be outdone, the Red Sox are up for a few awards of their own.
In the Like Nothing Else category, Manny Ramirez is a nominee for high-fiving a fan in the middle of a double play - a true Manny being Manny moment.
Jon Lester's no hitter after bouncing back from cancer treatment is up for the Best Moment Award.
Josh Becket earned a nomination in the Best Championship Performance category for his 4-0 postseason record.
When it comes to the Best Team Award, the Red Sox will have to compete with the Celtics. Terry Francona also squares off against Doc Rivers for Best Coach or Manager.
New England Revolution standout Matt Reis is nominated for Best MLS Player.
And in the not-so-proud moment file, the Patriots loss in Super Bowl XLII is up for the Best Upset Award.
