In their final home game of the regular season Sunday, the Patriots are honoring their 2006 Fan of the Year.
Karen Hourigan, aka "The Flag Lady", will be named the Bank of America #1 fan for this season. The 64-year-old grandmother can be seen front and center at Patriots games in her sequin flag hat and red, white, and blue parka.
Karen has been a season ticket holder for 18 years. The Krafts make sure to stop by and say a personal hello to Karen before every home game, calling her their personal good luck charm. She has even made special star shaped earrings for the Patriots cheerleaders, which they've worn during games.
The Flag Lady has become such a part of tradition in Foxboro that people actually seek her out for autographs.
Karen was nominated through fan submissions on the Patriots' web site. According to the nomination letter," In rain and snow, hot and cold, if you look down, or over to section 104, 1st row, second seat, you will find the ever enthusiastic Patriot "Flag Lady" Karen Hourigan, screaming and leading cheers to bring us a victory for our beloved Patriots In the eyes of all of us who sit in the sections around her area, we always look to her for encouragement and hope that a victory is at hand."
The Fan of the Year award has been supported and presented by Bank of America for the past 13 years to the "fan who demonstrates a higher level of passion and loyalty to the Pats."
