Brockton Post Office To Be Named After Marciano

BROCKTON (AP) ― The main post office in Brockton will soon bear the name of former heavyweight boxing champion and native son Rocky Marciano.

President Bush on Tuesday signed the bill authorizing the name change.

U.S. Rep. Stephen Lynch, who sponsored the bill, said Marciano was the personification of the American Dream because of his pride, his work ethic and determination to excel.

Marciano, the only heavyweight boxing champion to retire undefeated, died in 1969.

An official dedication date for the post office on Commercial Street has not been scheduled.
