Punting, passing and kicking. Autograph signings and music. This is the NFL Experience. And for the next few days leading up to the Super Bowl, fans can be a part of the big game's festivities.
The NFL Experience Built by Home Depot has taken over the entire rear of the University of Phoenix Stadium. It covers 850,000 square feet and has more than 50 interactive games.
People showed up in droves on Wednesday -- all waiting anxiously to get into the park. Shortly after 3 p.m., the gates opened and kids went running to the closest game or event.
The most popular attractions were definitely the youth football games, football throwing and field goal kicking.
Two EMTs waiting near the games in case of an emergency said there have not been many injuries, just some middle-aged men with damaged egos from missing 20-yard field goals.
A family could spend hours at the NFL experience playing games, meeting players and browsing through Super Bowl memorabilia.
The park was created by the NFL to include all fans even those without tickets to the Super Bowl. And unlike tickets to the big game, these passes are affordable (between $12.50 and $17.50).
"The NFL Experience Built by the Home Depot is designed to offer fans of all ages the opportunity to be part of the excitement of Super Bowl XLII, whether they have a ticket to the game or not. It is a celebration of football for fans in Arizona, as well as visitors throughout the state," said Frank Supovitz, the NFL's Senior Vice President of Events.
The best part is, the kids get to be active, play football and hang out and get advice from NFL players. Supovtiz said more than 50 past and present NFL stars will be at the park this week.
So if you're in Arizona for the Super Bowl, check it out. Throw a few passes and kick a few footballs. And for those who don't have tickets, check out the stadium where history could be made on Sunday.
