There are published reports that at least two National League teams are interested in Red Sox starting pitcher
Brad Penny.

Penny is currently the Red Sox fifth starter and considered to be on the trading block with John Smoltz set to join the team later this month and Clay Buchholz waiting in Triple-A Pawtucket.
He's 5-2 with a 5.85 ERA for the Red Sox this season.
According to
ESPN's Buster Olney, "Atlanta is one of the teams in conversation" with the Sox about the veteran right-hander.
Olney reports Boston is interested in Braves right fielder
Jeff Francoeur.
However, Braves general manager Frank Wren told the
Atlanta Journal Constitution the Penny report wasn't true.
"There is no validity to that," Wren told the paper. "That has not even been discussed."
The other team reportedly interested in Penny is the Philadelphia Phillies.
In a report on
mlb.com, Todd Zolecki writes:
"A scout for a Major League team said the Phillies have been following Red Sox right-hander Brad Penny recently. ESPN.com reported recently that the Phillies called the Red Sox about Penny, and the Sox informed them it would take Triple-A infielder Jason Donald to get him."
"Donald has value for Philadelphia because he could have an impact in the near future. He could be used as a super-utility player as early as next season."

Donald is 24 years old and currently playing for
Lehigh Valley in the International League.
He's hitting .230 in 45 games so far this season.
