Blown Tire Causes Serious Mass Pike Crash

6-Year-Old Boy And 30-Year-Old Man Seriously Injured

CHARLTON (WBZ) ― A six-year-old boy and a 30-year-old man were seriously injured Thursday morning when a tire on the car they were riding in blew out on the Mass Pike.

It happened around 10:30 a.m. on I-90 West in Charlton.

According to State Police, Joseph Tellier from Cumberland, R.I. was driving in the left lane when his car lost a tire, crashed into another vehicle and landed in the middle of the highway.

Tellier and a young boy in his car were seriously injured. Nobody in the other vehicle was hurt.

Several lanes of the highway were shutdown for hours, backing up traffic on the Westbound Pike for up to 15 miles. Eastbound traffic was also affected.
