His face says it all.
This image of Celtics fan Sean Morrow of Holden was captured in an unknown Boston bar on May 22, 2007 - the night of the 2007 NBA Draft.
Let's review. The Celtics went into the draft with one of the worst records in the NBA. Their chances of having the first or second pick in the draft - thus securing Greg Oden or Kevin Durant - were nearly 40 percent. The lowest they could possibly pick was fifth.
And that's exactly how the ping-pong balls fell for the Celtics. Fifth.
"The minute they fell out I knew it wasn't us, to say the least," Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck recalledThursday morning. "We'd fallen to fifth. I was not pleased. I sat there for almost an hour knowing before anybody else in Celtics Nation knew."
The hopes of adding a future All-Star like Durant or Oden into the Celtics lacking lineup, were shattered. It looked like fans were in for yet another disappointing season.
Then Danny Ainge went after the likes of Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett - two moves that never would have happened if the ping-pong balls had fallen the Celtics' way that May night.
Ten months later, the Celtics are in the NBA Finals, coming off an NBA best 66-16 season.
Earlier Thursday we asked: Do you know this Celtics fan?
Why? We wanted to talk to him, to see what it feels like to go from that look of despair to the look that it sure to be on his face at 9 o'clock Thursday night.
Thursday evening, we received a call from Sean Morrow of Holden. His brother had sent him a text message telling him that we were looking for him. Several other people contacted us to identify him as well.
Morrow assures us he'll be watching the finals.
