BPD Seeks Crowd Control Advice From Ireland Police

BOSTON (AP) ― Boston police have turned to law enforcement experts from Northern Ireland for advice on how to better control large crowds.

Police Commissioner Edward Davis says he wanted to learn from the Police Service of Northern Ireland as his department continues to investigate the death of a man during Celtics NBA championship celebrations in June.

David Woodman stopped breathing after he was placed in police custody and died 11 days later.

The Irish officers have suggested having a human rights lawyer scrutinize the department's security plans, watch officers' behavior during large-crowd events, and then issue a public report.

Davis says he is reviewing several ideas.

An independent panel as well as the Suffolk District Attorney's Office are also investigating Woodman's death.
