Bruins, Celts, Sox Games: 'Don't Hate, Appreciate'

Read: Roche's Red Sox Blog

BOSTON (WBZ) ― David Ortiz says this to me all the time...."Don't hate, appreciate" when it comes to life. Tonight, that's my message to the sports fans of Boston.

Embrace your clicker.

Watch all three games...Celtics, Sox, and the B's and love it.

I have a rare day off on this Wednesday and I am going to enjoy every moment of tonight.

I will begin by attending my son's baseball practice at 5 p.m. I will sit in my car with my XM radio on and listen to a ballgame, or sports show, something along those lines. While doing that, I will be reading the sports sections of my newspapers, soaking up all the stats, etc. that I can.

At 6:20ish, I will tune in the Red Sox pre-game show on my radio and get all the latest news from manager Terry Francona. Will Kevin Youkilis and/or Jacoby Ellsbury be in the lineup tonight against the Indians? I need to know for my 15 or so Fantasy Baseball rosters. Need to update at the last minute.

I will rush home from my son's practice and eat my dinner while I'm watching the first 30 minutes of the Sox game without a problem.

Thirty minutes later it's on to the Bruins-Carolina game 3 to see of the B's can bounce back from their tough Game 2 loss at the Garden on Sunday night. I have all the confidence in the world that they will. Just a hiccup, that's all. They weren't going to go 16-0, right? Watch for Marc Savard, Phil Kessel, Milan Lucic, Big Z, and Tim Thomas to step up again.

For those 30 minutes it's flip-flop with the Sox game. See how Justin Masterson is faring against the Cleveland Indians. The trick is to try not to miss a big moment....Big Papi's first home run of the season, a great catch, etc.. Meanwhile, you don't want to miss a goal in the B's game. That's crucial. Some nights I'm great at this, not missing a thing. Other nights, it's downright awful. Flip to the Sox game and miss a goal. Go back and stay with the B's for an extended period, flip back to the Sox during a commercial....flip back again...and you got it!!!! Missed another goal!

Just after 8 p.m., the challenge gets "Olympic-like." Watch the Celts...see how they come out. Is there a sense of urgency that they didn't have in Game 1? How does Ray look? Is his shot on tonight? Can the C's stop the 3-pointers AND Dwight Howard (a physical freak of nature BTW)? I think they'll pull out a W tonight, don't you? Too much heart on this team.

How long do I stay with the Celts? When a commercial break comes (and they seem like 20 minutes in an NBA play-off game), where do I go? Well, check and see if a period is over in the B's. If not, stick with that. Why?

Well, get your computer out and get into a "gamecast" or something like that with the Sox game so you can follow "pitch-by-pitch" to catch replays of any big moments you may hit. A radio may come in handy tonight as well.

Oh, and give 20-bucks to your kids to leave you alone for the night, or set the ground rules when they sit down in the room with you. They may opt out for American Idol of one of our hit CBS TV shows. Your spouse? Same deal, but make sure you tell them you love them either way. Or if they're angry with your night, remember you can make up for it Sunday with a solid gift for Mother's Day.

So there you go. What will the record be? 3-0? 2-1? 1-2? The one win fans definitely need is the Celtics. They lose and life gets extremely difficult heading down to Orlando.

And as for the night? Remember...."Don't hate...appreciate." Life as a Boston sports fan doesn't get much better than this.
