Longtime Boston Celtics trainer Ed Lacerte is being honored by his peers.

The National Basketball Athletic Trainers Association is naming an award after Lacerte and giving the first one to him. The Ed Lacerte Service Award will be given to a member of the NBATA by the chairman every two years.

Lacerte is heading into his 23rd season with the Celtics, making him the longest-serving athletic trainer in franchise history.

NBATA chairman Wally Blase called him "the model example of what our organization has strived to portray."
