Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers finished second in the voting for the NBA's Coach of the Year.
New Orleans coach Byron Scott was the winner, which was announced Tuesday.
Scott led the Hornets to their first playoff appearance in four years.
They finished with a 56-26 record, a franchise high for wins. New Orleans won the Southwest Division crown and leads Dallas 3-1 in the first round of the playoffs entering Game 5 Tuesday night.
This is the first time Scott has won the Red Auerbach Trophy in eight seasons as a coach.
Rivers, who won the award with Orlando in 2000, pulled in 23 first-place votes to Scott's 70. Scott won the overall point total 458-to-242.
A year after finishing with the second-worst record in the league, Rivers led a revamped Celtic lineup to the best overall record in the league at 66-16. The 42 win turnaround was the greatest in the history of the league.
Houston's Rick Adelman finished third.
