Ainge Named NBA Executive Of Year

BOSTON (WBZ) ― Danny Ainge, the Celtics' Executive Director of Basketball Operations, has been named the 2007-08 NBA Executive of the Year by the Sporting News.

Ainge received 18 of the 47 votes cast by general managers and executives from all 30 teams.

Los Angeles Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak finished second.

Ainge made the blockbuster trades for Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen that vaulted the Celtics from the team with the second worst record in league in 2006-2007 to the best record in 2007-2008. It was the biggest turnaround in NBA history.

Ainge is the first Celtic to receive the award since its inception in 1972-73.

Stan McNeal, Sporting News NBA writer, will present the award to Ainge Wednesday night before Game 5 of the Celtics-Cavaliers playoff series at the Garden.
